Lalakhal, an area surrounded by hills, tea gardens, natural forests, and rivers near the Meghalaya Mountain Ranges, is quickly becoming a top tourist destination. The star attraction is the Shari River’s enchanting aquamarine water, with its small evergreen mounds on either side, spreading throughout the whole area. Across the River, one can easily reach “Lalakhal Tea Garden” one of the oldest and most beautiful tea gardens in the country.

In the middle of February, you may enjoy some fresh Water Million on the bank of Shari River in Lalakhal.

Winter is the perfect time to visit Lalakhal. During this season, there is no water flow, so tourists can expect to see calm and transparent blue-green waters. As a bonus, there are many winter birds to be spotted.

Lalakhal is located about 44 km from Sylhet city. Tourists can visit by car, microbus, Lagoonas and local bus. Car or Microbus rental from Sylhet to Lalakhal is 2500-3500 taka per day. The drive normally takes 60 to 90 minutes. CNG Auto-rickshaw (not recommended) costs about 1000-1500 taka.  One can find many forms of very affordable public transport to reach Lalakhal. From Subhanighat Point in Sylhet City or Osmani Shishu Park, the buses (45 taka) and Lagoonas (33 taka) will arrive at Sharighat in one and a half to two hours. Lalakhal is only about 4 km from Sharighat. The fare will be 50-80 taka by local auto-rickshaw.  Tourists can also rent or share a boat or speedboat to reach Lalakhal. The boat journey is very exciting; one can experience the green-blue water of the Shari River. The boat costs approximately 500-700 taka, while the speedboat normally cost 1500-2000 taka.

Nazimgarh Wilderness is a beautiful and exclusive resort in Lalakhal. Costs per night range from 12,500-44,000 taka. It is best to reserve a room in advance; spaces are limited and fill up quickly. In addition, tourists can choose to spend the night at an adventure tent camp on the banks of the Shari River.
