Ratargul Swamp Forest is the only fresh water reservoir in Bangladesh and maintained by the Forest Department of Bangladesh.

Ratargul Swamp Forest stays underwater for five to six months per year. During this time, thousands of tourists come to see the submerged trees. Be sure not to miss beautiful Ratargul Watch Tower. Climb to the top and enjoy the views of the forest.

Various exciting activities, such as kayaking, are available at Ratargul. Kayaks allow visitors the freedom to roam wherever they wish, enjoying the swamp at their own pace. Each kayak has capacity for three people, with a rate of 150 taka per person. It is recommended to go with a guide for the first time, since the path can be confusing. Guides can be hired for 150 taka.

Ratargul features a variety of wildlife sanctuaries. For example, bird lovers can enjoy sightings of various bird species and nature enthusiast can experience many different kinds of plants.

Tourists can reach Ratargul from Ambarkhana point in Sylhet. Here they will find the CNG Auto-rickshaw station. The distance from the Ambarkhana station to Ratargul via Airport road is about 20 km. Tourists can take shared rides or make reservations for private travel. The shared ride will cost 80 taka per person and 800-1000 for private return trip. It is also possible to reach Ratargul through Kadim Tea Garden and Khadimnagar National Park. CNG auto-rickshaw fares will cost between 1000-1200 taka for return trip. During holidays, fares can be slightly higher.

Car or Microbus rental from Sylhet to Ratargul is 2000-3000 taka per day.

Boats can be rented from either Motor Ghat or Chowrangi Ghat. Boat fare from Motor Ghat is 1500 taka and 700-800 taka from Chowrangi Ghat. Those wishing to kayak are advised to travel from Chowrangi Ghat.

If someone is travelling to Jaflong or Lalakhal, visiting Ratargul is possible using Saraighat to Gowainghat Road.

Rainy season or monsoon is the most suitable time for Ratargul travel. During the rainy season, the forests are submerged under approximately 20 plus feet of water. In comparison, during winter, the height of the water is only about10 feet.

Although there are no hotels in Ratargul Swamp Forest, tourists can obtain moderate to 5 Star quality hotel accommodations in nearby Sylhet city.

Be aware that during the rainy season, snakes take shelter on tree branches.
Life jackets and umbrella rentals are available for 30-50 taka and it is advised to keep them available for various activities and weather changes.
